DeLauro Statement on Proposed Rule for Safety of Imported Foods
Steps to Protect American Families from FoodborneIllness Are Long Overdue
NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released thefollowing statement today on newly released proposed rules to ensure the safetyof our imported foods. DeLauro is a former chair of the subcommitteeresponsible for funding the Food and Drug Administration. She was also a majorproponent of the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, under whichtoday's proposed rule is being issued.
"The proposed rule issued today is long overdue and shouldbe finalized and implemented expeditiously to ensure the safety of America'simported food supply. Just as important as the speed with which it isimplemented is how strong this rule ultimately is, particularly with regard tothird party auditors. American families should never have to worry that theirdinner will make them ill."
