DeLauro Statement on Recent Tornadoes in Connecticut

May 17, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (May 17, 2018) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the recent tornadoes that caused damage across Connecticut.

"My thoughts are with the people and families affected by the recent tornadoes, which caused extraordinary damage in our communities. I also want to extend my thanks to the first responders for their quick action and bravery. My office stands ready to assist any constituents who have been impacted by these storms. In that vein, I have contacted local officials in Connecticut's Third District—including Hamden, Bethany, Seymour, Beacon Falls, Wallingford, and North Haven. I applaud Governor Malloy for his actions to expedite assistance to our municipalities, and my office is working closely with local leaders to ensure our cities and towns receive any resources they are due from FEMA as soon as the State requests a Disaster Declaration. The federal government has a key role to play in helping the people of Connecticut, and I am committed to ensuring they are made whole."
