DeLauro Statement on the Republican Farm Bill Failing to Pass

May 18, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (May 18, 2018) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Republicans' farm bill failing to pass the House of Representatives.

"Today's vote was a victory for SNAP beneficiaries and working families. The Republican majority attempted to put the interests of the wealthiest Americans ahead of children and families who would otherwise go hungry were it not for the food stamp program. That effort was soundly rejected on a bipartisan basis."

"For the first time in decades, Republicans sought to ram a farm bill through Congress for entirely partisan purposes. Now that that effort has failed, it is time for Republicans to join Democrats and work together on a farm bill that represents the needs of small farmers, our most vulnerable, and working people, instead of rigging the system even further in favor of the rich."
