DeLauro Statement on the Ryan Republican Budget
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today after Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryanreleased this year's version of the House Republican budget. DeLauro is thesenior Democrat on the subcommittees responsible for funding the departments ofLabor, Education, and Health and Human Services.
"The Ryan Republican budget is nothing more than a tiredretread of the same ideas Americans rejected last November. It would risk oureconomic recovery and harm middle class families at the expense of specialinterests and the very wealthiest among us. This is simply unacceptable andflies in the face of key responsibility as public officials; supporting themiddle class; and creating jobs and opportunities for those who strive to joinit.
"The Ryan budget would continue the erosion of funding forprograms we should be investing in and cut programs that protect the publichealth and safety, promote and develop our workforce, and educate the nextgeneration of Americans. Just like previous years, he is repealing theAffordable Care Act, turning Medicare into a voucher program, decimating oursocial safety net programs like food stamps and Medicaid, and evisceratingfunding for everything from food inspectors to COPS grants.
"Democrats will soon put forward a balanced proposal to growour economy and further job growth. That should be our focus."
