DeLauro Statement on Senate Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

August 10, 2021

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement after the United States Senate voted to pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

"After decades of disinvestment and four years of failed ‘Infrastructure Weeks,' today's Senate action took the first step to make desperately needed investments to rebuild our nation. From fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, revitalizing public transit systems, ensuring access to clean drinking water, and bringing high-speed broadband to every corner of our country, the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will move our country's economy into the 21st century and create good, union jobs that cannot be outsourced.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has proven that we cannot simply return to normal. We must meet the moment by building the architecture for our nation's future. I am particularly pleased that this legislation includes strong Davis-Bacon requirements to ensure that contracted workers will be protected and paid prevailing wages. I am proud that the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes $15 billion to remove lead service lines ensuring that all Americans will have access to clean drinking water and a $66 billion investment in rail to eliminate the Amtrak maintenance backlog, including $30 billion to modernize the Northeast Corridor.

"This investment will have a transformative impact on the lives of Connecticut's working families and will create good paying jobs to grow the middle class. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues on this legislation, as well as a broad Budget Reconciliation package of Democratic priorities, to quickly send to President Biden's desk."
