WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today on the Supreme Court's decision ruling Section 4of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is unconstitutional. The decision struckdown the formula used to determine if covered state and local governments arein compliance with the VRA.
"The Court has completely assaulted the Voting Rights Actwith today's decision. Long waits at the polls last November and new votersuppression laws underscore the continuing need for us to honor the valuescontained in the Voting Rights Act and the Fifteenth Amendment's promiseof voting equality.
