DeLauro Statement on Supreme Court Upholding Trump’s Muslim Ban
WASHINGTON, DC (July 26, 2018) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court upheld President Trump's executive order banning refugees and immigrants from seven countries—including five Muslim-majority countries—from entering the United States.
"Today is a particularly shameful day in our nation's history. President Trump made it clear during his campaign that he intended to ban Muslims from coming to our nation, and he followed through on that hateful promise in the earliest days of his Presidency. The Supreme Court's narrow 5-4 decision is especially disappointing because the President's actions were rooted in religious discrimination, not our national security interests. People across the country have spoken out loudly and clearly to say that this kind of bigotry has no place in our country. By upholding this policy, the Supreme Court has let hatred and fear win the day over our American values of openness and diversity."
