DeLauro Statement on Syria

August 30, 2013

NEW HAVEN, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) today released the following statement in response to President Obama's remarks concerning Syria:

"The use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians violates established global norms and its reported use by the Syrian government should not be tolerated by the international community.  President Obama's assurance that there are no plans for boots on the ground or an open ended commitment to Syria is welcome, yet the Administration needs to continue to consult with Congress on its planned response to the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime. And should the President chose to use force he also must further explain to the American public the U.S. national security interest of such a response and how such action fits into a broader strategy to address the conflict in that country."
