DeLauro Statement on Trump Administration’s Proposed Green Card Restrictions

WASHINGTON, DC(September 24, 2018) - Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's announcement of a proposed rule limiting immigrants seeking green cards from using public assistance programs.

"The Trump Administration's effort to restrict immigrants' access to public assistance programs will hurt some of the most vulnerable people in our country. Make no mistake, this rule change will consign lawful residents to be second-class citizens. This does not reflect the values that we believe in as a nation. Our country is made richer by immigrants, and we have always welcomed men, women, and children to our shores so that they can build a better life and build a stronger nation. We must keep fighting to ensure that children can start off on the right foot with Head Start, and that families have a roof over their head, access to quality healthcare, and enough food to eat regardless of where they are from."
