DeLauro Statement on Trump Family Separation Executive Order
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding President Trump's Executive Order regarding family separation at the border.
"President Trump's executive order is little solace to the children and parents who have already been separated from one another. The Trump administration still needs to reunite children with their parents—a massive bureaucratic hurdle which I have little faith in this administration carrying out in a timely and orderly fashion."
"The executive order also fails to reverse the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy, which led to children being separated from their families in the first place, even when people were legally seeking asylum. Prosecuting families seeking asylum will still lead to families being separated. And the incarceration of children and families will take place in facilities that are unsuitable for children under current law."
"This is child abuse, plain and simple. Congress needs to take action where President Trump has failed the American people."
