DeLauro Statement on Trump’s Outrageous Plan to End Birth Control Coverage

June 1, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (June 1, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding news that President Trump is considering a rule to allow any employer in the United States to apply for an exemption to offer contraceptive coverage as mandated under the Affordable Care Act.

"The Affordable Care Act has enabled millions of American women and their families to have access to safe, reliable, and affordable birth control as part of their health care coverage. President Trump's plan to allow employers the ability to waive birth control coverage is an extremely dangerous and misguided idea that would allow employers to impose their own morals and beliefs on their employees.

"Every woman deserves the opportunity to choose what is best for her and her family, and family planning should be left out of the work place. The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and the birth control requirement has been decided by the Supreme Court. President Trump and Republicans should stop their attacks on the Affordable Care Act and women's health once and for all."
