DeLauro Statement on Trump’s Public Charge Rule

NEW HAVEN, CT (August 12, 2019) - Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Trump Administration issued a final rule on public charge.

"Today's finalized public charge rule is a continuation of the President Trump's demonization of immigrants. President Trump has no problem giving trillions in tax cuts to his billionaire friends and corporations, all while he dismantles our nation's social safety net for people in need. He continues to make immigrants the scapegoat for a lack of good-paying jobs, even though it is his own policies that have failed to jumpstart wage growth for working people. And we have seen the damage this hatred has caused in recent days."

"We cannot let our commitment to our nation's values waver in this critical moment. The United States must remain a beacon of hope and opportunity for people here and from across the world. President Trump and his administration should immediately rescind this misguided rule."
