DeLauro Statement on VA Refusal to Repay Underpaid GI Bill Benefits

November 29, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (November 29, 2018) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement upon reports that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would not be reimbursing veterans who were paid less in GI Bill benefits than they were promised.

"After weeks of issues and promises to make veterans whole, VA officials are going back on their word. That is unacceptable. GI benefits help student veterans go back to school and keep a roof over their head after they put their lives on the line for our country. In return for their service and sacrifice, they deserve the benefits they were promised by the federal government. The VA needs to fix the problem immediately—and Congress needs to step up to ensure that happens. That is what the veterans contacting my office have told me. My office has reached out to our local colleges and universities regarding the GI Bill issues, but if any veterans are continuing to experience difficulties related to their benefits please contact my New Haven office immediately for assistance at 203-562-3718."
