DeLauro Statement on Vance v. Ball State University Decision

June 24, 2013

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released thefollowing statement today on the Supreme Court's decision in Vance v. BallState University. The decision dramatically narrows the definition of a"supervisor," making it harder for an employee to win a lawsuit if they havebeen harassed at work.

"Today's decision, which could leave no further recourse forharassed workers nationwide, reinforces the Robert's Court's reputation as themost anti-worker Supreme Courts in our nation's history. Just as they did withLilly Ledbetter's case, a narrow majority is striking at the heart oflongstanding civil rights laws. This decision is a loss for American workersand does not reflect the realities of today's workplace.
