DELAURO ON SUPERCOMMITTEE FAILURE
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement in response to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction's failure to reach a deal today.
"Everyone agrees that we have to address the long-term deficits we face. I believe that we need a bold and balanced approach, including both revenue and spending, to reduce our deficits over the long-term while creating jobs immediately. However, the House majority party refused to consider a jobs proposal, and instead insisted on maintaining the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and repealing the Medicare guarantee, which would place the health care of millions of American seniors in jeopardy. While the supercommittee did not reach a deal, I believe that we ultimately must achieve the bold, balanced plan our country needs."
