DeLauro Unveils Prescription Drug Savings Report for Connecticut’s Third Congressional District
Data highlights how the Inflation Reduction Act will lower cost of prescription drugs in CT-03
Chair of the House Appropriations Committee Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released a report prepared by the Democratic staff of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform highlighting how the Inflation Reduction Act will help seniors better afford the cost of prescription drugs. She unveiled the report at Tower Lane in New Haven on Wednesday, October 12.
"American seniors are living paycheck to paycheck – grappling with rising food, energy, and housing costs that are impacting working- and middle-class Americans everywhere," said Chair DeLauro. "Our seniors, many of whom are on a fixed income, are feeling the economic pinch caused by inflation right now. That is why I am committed to finding solutions in Congress to support our seniors. In fact, the recently enacted Inflation Reduction Act will take historic steps to lower prescription drug and health care costs by finally allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, capping the price of insulin at $35 a month, and setting a $2,000 annual out-of-pocket cap for prescription drug costs. This will lower prescription drug costs for tens of thousands of seniors, and I promise I will always fight to enact policies that bring down costs for hardworking seniors and families."
"The Towers thanks Congresswoman DeLauro. We were so appreciative for the time and discussion about the Inflation Reduction Act. Our residents were grateful for the Congresswoman's time and were thankful to have a robust discussion surrounding the issues that matter most to our seniors." – Gustave Keach-Longo, President and CEO of the Towers at Tower Lane.
"We appreciate the work that Congresswoman DeLauro has done on the Inflation Reduction Act. Expanding insurance coverage and lowering prescription drug costs are critical for older adults who on fixed incomes. Decisions to pay for rent or food rather than life-sustaining prescriptions should not be routine for older adults." – Melissa Lang, President and CEO of Agency on Aging of South Central CT.
Big corporations are raising prices and squeezing far too many Americans. That's why Democrats are taking action to lower costs for American families. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 contains critical reforms to lower prescription drug prices and help Americans struggling to afford their medications.
