Releases Statement on New IOM Report
WASHINGTON, DC--Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) releasedthe following statement today on a new Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, SupplementalNutrition Assistance Program: Examining the Evidence to Define Benefit Adequacy. The IOM found that the formula used to determine the amount of food stampbenefits people receive may not be adequate, with American families shortchanged as a result.
"The report released today by the well-respected Instituteof Medicine should serve as a clear message to Congress: stop trying to cut thefood stamp program and harm American families. I urge my colleagues toheed this message and instead focus their efforts on what should be our numberone priority, improving the economy and creating American jobs."
