DELAURO VISITS 3RD DISTRICT EMERGENCY SHELTERS
Meets with local, state, and federal officials and residents on impact of winter storm
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement as she toured the 3rd Congressional District today, visiting emergency shelters in Seymour, Naugatuck, Durham/ Middlefield, and Middletown to meet with local mayors, officials, and residents.
DeLauro joined Representatives John Larson and Joe Courtney, Governor Dannel Malloy, and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman for a meeting with Bill Bryan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration at the U.S. Department of Energy, to discuss restoring power throughout the state. Congresswoman DeLauro and the rest of the Connecticut Congressional delegation supported Governor Malloy's request for a disaster declaration.
"I thank the first responders, utility crews, the Red Cross, and all the volunteers that are working are to help Connecticut residents recover from this storm. This winter storm has been devastating for many in our state, especially the 675,000 that are still without power—but as I saw throughout the state today, residents are persevering, making the best of a difficult situation, and will recover from this storm. Restoring power to homes and communities is critical, and I will continue to work with the utility companies and Department of Energy to do this as quickly as possible," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "I will continue to work with residents, local, state and federal officials, and my colleagues to ensure that Connecticut residents and municipalities get the assistance they need to recover."
