Visits Connecticut Works location to highlight importance of support for job-seekers

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the CT Works Career Center in Derby, Connecticut today, touring the facility and holding a roundtable discussion with representatives from the center and individuals searching for employment about the impact of the budget proposed by the new House of Representatives majority.

CT Works Career Centers provide resources such as education, training, and career counseling to those searching for employment at no cost. Job hunters can use the computer lab to print resumes, attend workshops to acquire new skills, and work on job development.

“At a time when jobs are harder to find than ever, we need job development programs like Connecticut Career Works to help those who have lost their jobs to get back on their feet. Now is not the time to be cutting funding for these critical services, and yet that is exactly what the new Republican majority in the House has proposed. They want to slash federal funding for job training centers, education, medical research, and even veterans’ health care by up to 40 percent— while retaining handouts like $40 billion in subsidies to oil companies,” said Congresswoman DeLauro. “I believe these are misguided cuts. As the recent jobs report showed last Friday, this is not the moment to cut job training programs. Employers are looking to fill in vacancies. I will continue to proudly stand by Connecticut Career Works, and programs like it throughout the country, and will keep fighting to ensure that they receive the funding they so desperately need.”
