Industry leader, award-winning Precision Combustion paves the way in clean energy manufacturing

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited Precision Combustion in North Haven today, a small business that uses clean energy technology to develop and manufacture devices for use in the chemical, energy, aerospace, fossil fuel production and transportation industries.

With a staff of approximately 35 individuals, Precision Combustion is a small but growing business that focuses on producing catalytic reactors, devices which are used to cause chemical reactions between fluids and useful in a variety of applications, including engines. Their innovative technology has made them industry leaders and earned the highly competitive 2010 Army Small Business Innovation Research Achievement Award. Precision Combustion was named as one of 11 winners, out of 471 proposals, in May of 2010 for their work in developing a key part of the new Stirling engines, which uses heat to produce energy.

The Congresswoman toured the facility, speaking with company President Kevin Burns and employees and learned about the innovative technologies being developed by Precision Combustion. Along with representatives from other local businesses, they discussed how the Energy Independence Initiative is moving our country towards a clean energy future. This legislative Initiative will put the country on a path to energy independence, strengthen our national security, boost the economy and job growth, lower fuel prices, and address global warming. By focusing in clean energy technologies such as those developed by Precision Combustion, we are investing in our nation's future.

"Small businesses are the engine of our economy and at the forefront of American innovation, generating more than 60 percent of net new jobs annually over the last decade. And green energy jobs are the jobs of the future, helping to propel our nation and our economy forward. At the nexus of these fields is Precision Combustion, the very model of a modern clean energy innovator. It is leading the way, both in Connecticut and in the global marketplace, and their innovation achievements are extraordinary," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "Through the Energy Independence Initiative, we have worked in Congress to ensure that businesses like Precision Combustion can grow and succeed, creating jobs, reducing our dangerous dependence on foreign energy sources, and reducing energy costs both on our wallets and on our environment. Precision Combustion is a shining example of American innovation and of our clean energy future."
