DELAURO VISITS MILFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL TO RECOGNIZE STUDENTS FOR HELPING VETERANS
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the West Shore Middle School in Milford today to recognize the efforts of history teacher Thomas Acri's class in organizing their "Honor Flight New England" Fundraiser Dinner and Raffle.
The event, which is scheduled for May 25, will raise funds to donate to the non-profit organization, "Honor Flight New England," which transports veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the city's memorials. This event is just one of many organized by Acri, winner of this year's VFW Connecticut Teacher of the Year award, and his students to honor and support local veterans. For this year's fundraiser, the students will be staging the entire event themselves, designing the invitations, helping with the food, and organizing the donations from local businesses for the raffle.
"It is so important that Americans, and especially our children, understand the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have risked their lives for our nation. I believe everyone who has served deserves our nation's gratitude, and one way to show our appreciation is through "Honor Flight New England." This worthy organization sends veterans to the nation's capital to experience and reflect at the national memorials honoring their service," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "I am so impressed by West Shore Middle School students' dedication and hard work, as well as the commitment of their teacher, Thomas Acri, not only to teaching but to public service."
