DeLauro Visits North Branford Business

October 18, 2010

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited Tilcon Connecticut Inc., in North Branford, CT, today, a local business specializing in supplying building materials, construction, and paving services.

Tilcon Connecticut began in 1923, growing and evolving over the years to become a leading supplier of quality crushed stone, hot mix asphalt and ready mix concrete. Today, Tilcon is one of the largest paving companies in Connecticut, and supports the construction rehabilitation of high-quality roads, bridges, and buildings throughout the region.

Congresswoman DeLauro met with company employees, toured the facility, and was joined by company President Ciaran Brennan, Vice President Gary Wall, and other company and union officials.

"The work done here at Tilcon, supplying and maintaining our roads, highways, and bridges, is absolutely vital to our state's economic health and central to our economic recovery. I am leading the fight to invest more in our state and national infrastructure, so we create more, real American jobs, revitalize our economy, and restore the conditions for long-term prosperity.

"As we move forward, we will need a national growth strategy and infrastructure will play an integral role in it. I was very glad to hear the president announce a much-needed $50 billion up-front investment to renew and expand our infrastructure. And I was particularly glad to hear him call for the creation of a national infrastructure bank – something I have been fighting for since 1994. By issuing federal bonds and using the proceeds to fund infrastructure projects, a national infrastructure bank could leverage hundreds of billions of dollars of private investment toward public infrastructure. I believe such a bank will boost our efforts to make up our infrastructure deficit enormously, and give a lift to our entire economy.

"We need to invest in our infrastructure again, and to get the infrastructure bank passed, and I know that we can rebuild and repave our Connecticut infrastructure, and create good jobs for our hardworking men and women all across our state."
