DELAURO VISITS SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES ACADEMY
New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the Saint Martin de Porres Academy in New Haven today, speaking with students about the importance of education.
Saint Martin de Porres Academy operates an extended day schedule, with students attending classes for 11 months a year, 10 hours a day, with extra-curricular activities in the afternoon. The faith-based middle school is tuition-free, and seeks to provide a quality education to underserved children in New Haven.
"My parents taught me at a young age about the importance of getting a good education. Their hard work and dedication to taught me to follow my dreams, to get an education, and that I could do anything I wanted. And I believe that it is our responsibility, especially for Congress, to ensure that the next generation of Americans has the tools and opportunities they need to realize their dreams. That is what the Saint Martin de Porres Academy is striving towards, and I am proud to be here today to support their goal of breaking the cycle of poverty through education and enabling our children to fulfill their potential."
