DeLauro Visits, Tours Naugatuck Housing Authority

Federal funding made vast improvements throughout housing developments


New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the Naugatuck Housing Authority (NHA) today to tour the upgraded facilities and speak with residents about the various projects underway, which were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Urban Act grants.

The Naugatuck Housing Authority has used the ARRA to help complete new roofs, railings and siding on six buildings at their George B. Lewis I- HUD Senior Housing Complex. A railing project at George B. Lewis II- HUD Senior Housing Complex will be starting shortly. Urban Act funds will be used to make improvements to their Lewis Circle Family Rental Complex, including new doors, energy efficient windows, and new kitchens. The NHA is also utilized these funds to complete a weatherization upgrade project at their Oak Terrace Complex to make the buildings more environmentally-friendly and to reduce costs for tenants, and to begin a new siding project at the Robert Hutt Congregate Housing Complex

"The work done here at the Naugatuck Housing Authority is really extraordinary," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "These federal funds have made a real difference here, reducing the impact on both the environment and on the residents' checkbooks. The Naugatuck Housing Authority has utilized funds to move their projects into the future, and I am very pleased with the results. The residents here will benefit greatly from these improvements, and I look forward to seeing their completion."
