DeLauro Votes Against Latest Continuing Resolution

January 22, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (January 22, 2018)Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after voting against the latest continuing resolution.

"The latest three week continuing resolution does not change any of the fundamental issues that plagued the previous continuing resolution, which the Republican majority rammed through last week. It still fails to support Community Health Centers, which serve as the primary health care provider for over 27 million people—including disproportionately rural and low-income populations. It fails to permanently reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program, which gives 9 million children access to health coverage."

"Our government was shutdown by President Trump and Congressional Republicans due to their inability to govern. The Constitution empowers the Congress to appropriate funds for the general well-being and for the national defense. Instead, Congressional Republicans are asking us to fund the government a few weeks at a time, as we go from continuing resolution to continuing resolution without addressing the major issues facing our nation. That is irresponsible. We need to meet the needs of the middle class and working families by funding our government programs sufficiently."
