DeLauro Votes to Block Trump’s Unlawful National Emergency Declaration

WASHINGTON, DC (February 26, 2019) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after voting in favor of the House Resolution to block President Trump's illegal national emergency declaration.

"President Trump's national emergency declaration undermines our Constitution by usurping Congress's authority to appropriate funds—power we exercised just two weeks ago by passing a bipartisan agreement that helps secure our border. That legislation rejected his demand for a wall, and he went on to sign that very bill into law. So this emergency declaration is nothing more than a manufactured crisis by the President. Instead of focusing on the urgent issues facing our nation—from creating good-paying jobs and addressing the rising cost of healthcare and prescriptions drugs to climate change and gun violence—the President is fixated on undermining the Constitution and the rule of law. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this resolution."
