DeLauro Votes to Find the Truth of the January 6 Insurrection

June 30, 2021

WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement on today's vote on H.Res. 503, which empowers Congress to find the truth of the January 6 insurrection at the United States Capitol and ensure that this assault on democracy does not happen again:

"The January 6 insurrection was an attack on the cradle of our democracy and against liberty. It was also an attack not just against the American people, but all who aspire to a freer world. As Members of Congress, we have an urgent duty to uncover for the American people the truth of that terrible day. That is why I voted to establish a Select Committee to investigate the insurrection and ensure that such an attack can never happen again.

"I am proud that the House Appropriations Legislative Branch Subcommittee held 11 hearings on topics that include responding to the January 6 insurrection and the urgent needs of the Capitol Police—the brave men and women in uniform who risked their lives defending this institution. Those hearings revealed that we must form a Select Committee to uncover what transpired that day, help us prevent future domestic terrorist attacks, honor those who put their lives on the line to defend our democracy, and ensure that Congress can continue its essential work. I applaud Speaker Pelosi for working to forge this path to truth."
