DeLauro Votes to Protect Same-Sex Marriage Equality

Chair of the House Appropriations Committee Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today voted in support of H.R. 8404, the Respect for Marriage Act, bipartisan legislation that would enshrine protections for same-sex marriage into federal law.

"Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the complete disregard of over 50 years of precedent, conservative activists on the Supreme Court and within the GOP are plotting to strip away additional, hard-won rights like the right to same-sex marriage," said Chair DeLauro. "Let me be clear: love is love. We cannot go back to a time where LGBTQ+ Americans are denied equal rights and same-sex marriages went unrecognized under the law. I am proud to stand with LGBTQ+ Americans in the fight to protect their rights."

The Respect for Marriage Act would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), enshrine same-sex marriage protections into federal law, and provide additional legal protections for marriage equality.
