Rosa DeLauro Condemns Trump Plan to Cut Taxes for Billionaires at the Expense of the Middle Class

September 27, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on the Trump-Ryan-McConnell plan to cut taxes for corporations, millionaires and billionaires:

"I am chagrined, but not surprised, that the tax plan released today by the President and the Congressional Republican leadership cuts taxes for the wealthiest Americans and raises taxes on middle class families. It does this by slashing the tax rate for top earners, repealing the estate tax, and raising the base tax rate for middle class families. We need to put families who are struggling to make ends meet first, not last." said DeLauro.

"In addition, while the framework recognizes the importance of improving the Child Tax Credit, it leaves out those families who are struggling the most. Instead, we should be enacting my Child Tax Credit Improvement Act, which increases the availability of the credit to lower income families and increases the value of the credit for families with young children.

I call on my Republican colleagues to focus on those in need and the middle class first instead of giving huge tax breaks to corporations and billionaires."
