Blumenthal, Murphy, DeLauro Applaud National Innovation Award for Guilford’s GestVision

September 29, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (September 29, 2016) — Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), and U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) announced that Guilford-based company GestVision Inc. received a national innovation award from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Patents for Humanity Program. The program was launched by the U.S. Commerce Department’s United States Patent and Trademark Office in February 2012 as part of an Obama administration initiative to promote game-changing innovations to solve long-standing development challenges. GestVision Inc. developed a quick, simple, low-cost diagnostic test for preeclampsia, a potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication and the leading cause of prenatal death for mothers and babies in low and middle-income counties. They were one of only four nationwide winners.

“Once again, companies throughout Greater New Haven are on the cutting edge of innovation,” said Blumenthal, Murphy, and DeLauro. “GestVision created a simple, low-cost test to identify preeclampsia in pregnant women that will make a real difference in saving lives. Congrats to the entire GestVision team on this well-deserved national recognition.”
