Chair DeLauro Statement on Retirement of Chair DeFazio
WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on the retirement of House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Peter DeFazio (OR-04):
"Congressman Peter DeFazio is a skilled legislator, brilliant thinker, and committed public servant. He possesses unmatched knowledge of the issues facing our nation's infrastructure and never shies away from fighting for America's working families. With the passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, legislation Pete was instrumental in crafting, generations of Americans will benefit from his determination and tenacity. Pete's commitment to creating jobs and ending the climate crisis in the Build Back Better Act will help build the architecture for our nation's future.
"The House of Representatives is losing one of its brightest, and I will miss having his leadership atop the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee next Congress. We worked closely in the fight against big industry on issues such as PFAS, food labeling, and price gouging on COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. Together, over many years and different administrations, we have urged federal agencies to protect workers and families and put people above corporations.
"I have learned so much from Peter DeFazio, and I am grateful for his friendship, cemented by our shared Italian Catholic heritage. I wish him, Myrnie, and the entire DeFazio family the very best as they begin this new chapter."
