Congresswoman DeLauro Statement on Tragic Loss of Ezra Schwartz

November 23, 2015

NEW HAVEN, CT (November 23, 2015)— After speaking with members of the Schwartz family, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) issued the following statement of condolence and paid tribute to Ezra Schwartz, the young American recently killed while volunteering in Israel.

“I am heartbroken that yet another senseless act of terror has tragically ended a young American’s life.” said DeLauro. “Ezra Schwartz was murdered simply because he was Jewish. He was an extraordinary young man who had his whole life still ahead of him. He was spending a year in Israel, building a deeper connection to his family roots and volunteering his time to make a difference in the lives of others. His was a mission of compassion and humanitarianism.”

“Though we may never fully understand why Ezra was taken so soon, his friends and family can take comfort in the full life that he led while he was here.” DeLauro continued. “Well known for his generosity and kind spirit, he will be deeply missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known him and will serve as an inspiration to others to make a difference in this world.”

“Though there are no words of comfort that I can offer to the Schwartz family that will ease their pain, my thoughts and prayers remain with them during this most difficult time.”
