CONNECTICUT DELEGATION ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $1.8 MILLION FOR JOB CREATION, CLEAN-UP, AND RECOVERY DUE TO SANDY

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Connecticut delegationannounced up to $1,830,620 for the Connecticut Department of Labor. ThisNational Emergency Grant (NEG) funding from the U.S. Department of Labor willcreate about 120 temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers to assist withclean-up and recovery efforts as a result of the effects of Superstorm Sandy.

"This grant addresses critical needs in the wake ofSuperstorm Sandy, and brings us closer to recovery by providing dislocatedworkers with opportunities to clean, rebuild, and reconstruct the communitiesthat were hit hardest. People in Connecticut affected by Sandy will continue toneed resources for employment, community revitalization and safety, and we aregrateful to the U.S. Department of Labor for its support today in each of theseareas. As we continue down the path to a full recovery, we pledge to continueto fight for those affected by Sandy," said the members.

These funds, of which $610,207will be released initially, may be used to provide temporary employmenton projects to assist with clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation, andreconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities, and lands within theaffected communities, as well as to deliver humanitarian aid and safetyassistance, as needed. These funds may also be used to perform work on thehomes of economically disadvantaged individuals who are eligible for theFederally-funded weatherization program, with priority given to services forthe elderly and individuals with disabilities.

On October 30, 2012, the Federal Emergency ManagementAgency (FEMA) declared Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London countiesand Mashantucket Pequot Indian Reservation as eligible for FEMA's Public Assistance Program.
