DeLauro to the Administration: We Will Defeat the Trans-Pacific Partnership

August 12, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (August 12, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Draft Statement of Administration Action on the Trans-Pacific Partnership that the Obama Administration filed today. The Draft Statement signifies that the Administration intends to ask Congress to bring the agreement up for a vote in the lame-duck session of Congress after the election.

“American families across the country are struggling. The greatest economic challenge that we face today is that far too many workers are in jobs that simply do not pay them enough. However, the President ignores this fact and instead chooses to double down on a misguided trade agreement that was written in the dark by 600 corporate lobbyists, and will only further decrease wages and ship jobs overseas.

“The Administration’s notice is another sign that it intends to push the Trans-Pacific Partnership through Congress and go against the American people and our next President. However, we remain staunchly against the agreement and we are prepared to defeat it. With Members of Congress and the American people rallying against the agreement, the Administration will not have the numbers, not now, and not after the election.”
