DeLauro Announces $200,000 Job Training Grant for Waterbury’s Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) announced that the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board in Waterbury will receive a $200,000 federal grant through the Environmental Protection Agency to teach environmental job skills to individuals near brownfield sites. Nationwide, more than 4,000 people have completed training programs, with more than 3,000 obtaining employment in the environmental fields, earning an average wage of $13.84 per hour.
"Connecticut has a number of brownfield sites in communities across the state and we need skilled workers to make them usable again. This grant will help people in Waterbury attain the skills they need for good paying jobs, as well as ensure that the economic benefits from the brownfield redevelopment remain in the community," said DeLauro.
