DeLauro Announces Opposition to Unconstitutional, Dangerous Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today announcing her opposition to the unconstitutional, dangerous bill banning abortions after 20 weeks. The House of Representatives is slated to vote on the legislation today. DeLauro opposed similar legislation in 2012 and 2013.
“This bill is plainly unconstitutional and dangerous for women’s health and basic rights. It plainly violates the principles laid out in the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which has been settled law for over 40 years. Being in the Majority is not an excuse to try and insert extreme, divisive ideological preferences into law, yet that is exactly what this bill tries to do.
“My colleagues across the aisle always claim to be against government overreach. This bill is the height of hypocrisy, because it would extend the federal government’s reach straight into the doctor’s office.
“Women need to be trusted to make medical decisions in private consultation with their doctors and families. Not Washington politicians. I strongly oppose this bill.”
