DeLauro Announces SBA Tibbetts Award For Precision Combustion, Inc.

June 15, 2015

One of 23 Awarded To Small Businesses Nationwide

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today announced Precision Combustion, Inc. has won the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)’s Tibbetts Award. Precision Combustion was one of 23 small businesses, six individuals and three organizations to win the award nationwide. DeLauro wrote to the SBA in support of Precision Combustion’s nomination in April. A copy of that letter can be viewed here.

“Small businesses are the engine of our economy and if we want to grow our economy, create jobs, and stimulate innovation, there is no better way than by supporting small business. Precision Combustion has shown what innovative small businesses are capable of when they receive the right support. All of the technologies developed by this company have their roots in the Small Business Innovation Research program. And they have paid that support back in dividends, acting as a mentor and leader in the SBIR community. I am delighted to be able to recognize them for winning the Tibbetts Award, an outstanding achievement.”

The Tibbetts Award recognizes small businesses and individuals that “exemplify the best” in the SBIR or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Precision Combustion won an SBIR grant last October to develop and test a generator that can remove pathogens, pests and weeds from soil that is used for farming.

All of the technologies developed by Precision Combustion have their roots in the SBIR program. Precision Combustion holds 80 patents and employs 33 people.

Small businesses account for roughly half of Connecticut’s workforce. Last year the SBA provided $220 million in loans to over 500 Connecticut small businesses.
