DeLauro Applauds $9 Million in Additional Sandy Funds for New Haven Union Station

March 9, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today applauding the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for releasing $8,978,750 in Public Transportation Emergency Relief funding for power upgrades at New Haven’s Union Station.

“I am pleased that almost $9 million from the FTA will now be released for this much needed power upgrade. Given the construction of a new rail maintenance facility at Union Station, the fact that the rail yard will exceed the effective capacity of the shared feeder before the completion of all of the anticipated projects and that one of our most prone areas to flooding is Union Station, adding and hardening capacity is a smart investment.”

The funding is part of the Sandy Disaster Relief bill DeLauro championed and Congress passed in January of 2013. This particular grant is available under a provision of that bill allocating money to ensure future storms do not have the destructive impact that Sandy had on Connecticut’s shoreline.
