DeLauro Applauds Announcement of Improved Wages, Sick and Family Leave for Facebook Contractors

May 13, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today applauded Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg’s announcement that the company’s contractors and vendors will receive improved wages, and sick and family leave.

“This action by Facebook is recognition that businesses know paying their employees a decent wage, and helping them achieve some sort of work/life balance benefits everyone. But the ability to provide for yourself and your family should not depend on where you work. Everyone in this country should have that right. America is one of only a handful of nations that do not guarantee either paid sick or family leave for its citizens. That must change.”

DeLauro is the author of the Healthy Families Act, which would allow workers to earn paid sick leave to use when they are sick, to care for a sick family member, to obtain preventive care, or to address the impacts of domestic violence, stalking or sexual assault. She is also the author of the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act, which would establish a national paid family and medical leave insurance program, ensuring that American workers would no longer have to choose between a paycheck and caring for themselves or a family member.
