DeLauro Applauds President Obama’s America’s College Promise Proposal
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today applauding President Obama’s proposal to provide free community college tuition for responsible students. She will discuss the America’s College Promise proposal and other ways to deal with college affordability next Friday in Connecticut. Details on a location and time will be announced in the following days.
“Every man and woman in America deserves access to a first-rate education, which is the great equalizer in our society. It opens doors of opportunity to jobs, higher wages, and a better life. That has always been a cornerstone of our republic and part of our compact that gives each generation an opportunity to do better than the one before it. President Obama’s proposal will help ensure that opportunity is a reality for more people.
“Community colleges have long provided the practical training and skills development necessary for in-demand careers. I have long fought for initiatives that support our community colleges and make higher education more affordable and accessible for students of all ages. America’s College Promise would help fight the rising cost of college tuition and reinforce our commitment to keeping the doors of education open for all.
DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Subcommittee, which overseas our nation’s education investments.
