DeLauro Applauds Signing of Marine One Maintenance Contract
WASHINGTON, DC (December 15, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Marine One maintenance contract between the Navy and Sikorsky that will run from 2017 until 2021.
“Sikorsky has built and maintained Marine One in Connecticut for the last 40 years. The workforce, who has the experience working with Marine One, is best equipped and prepared to ensure that the fleet continues to be safe and reliable,” said DeLauro. “Today’s news is a win for working families in Stratford and the highly skilled workers at Sikorsky. Connecticut has a rich history of being a leader in the defense manufacturing industry and this contract will ensure the maintenance work remains in Connecticut where it belongs.”
DeLauro has been integral in securing this contract for Stratford. In July, DeLauro sent a letter to Secretary Stackley inquiring the status of negotiations; in August, she co-led a letter to Secretary Mabus urging for the Navy’s support for the program to remain in Connecticut; and in September, she led a Connecticut Delegation meeting with Secretary Stackley in Washington, DC regarding the topic.
