DeLauro on Bloomberg Ingersoll-Rand Report

December 22, 2014

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on a Bloomberg report that the Department of Homeland Security has continued to award lucrative federal contracts to Ingersoll-Rand in violation of a 2002 law that bars them from doing so.

“The federal government needs to stop doing business with companies that have abdicated their citizenship. We should not reward companies that take advantage of all that makes America great, while refusing to pay their tax bill. Congress must pass the No Federal Contracts for Corporate Deserters Act next year so that Ingersoll-Rand and other inverted companies will no longer be able to dodge their tax obligations at the expense of companies who pay their fair share.”

DeLauro is author of the No Federal Contracts for Corporate Deserters Act. That legislation would bar contracts from going to businesses that reincorporate overseas, are majority-owned by shareholders of the old U.S. corporation and do not have substantial business activities in the foreign country in which they are incorporating. It would also strengthen current law by curbing most subcontracts with inverted corporations.
