DeLauro Calls for Action on Gun Safety Legislation

Call to action marks 22nd anniversary of President Reagan banning armor-piercing ammunition

WASHINGTON, DC (August 28, 2018) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement marking the 22nd anniversary of President Ronald Reagan signing into law gun safety legislation that banned armor-piercing ammunition.

"Twenty-two years ago today, President Reagan made all Americans safer by outlawing armor-piercing ammunition, so-called ‘cop-killer bullets,'" said DeLauro. "That sense of bipartisan concern for gun violence in our communities is now sorely missing from the Congress."

"We must not let up in the fight for solutions to end the gun violence epidemic," continued DeLauro. "Reasonable gun violence prevention measures would make a difference in our communities, and many of them are supported by the vast majority of Americans. These solutions include banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, requiring a background check for every commercial gun sale, and funding for federal research into the causes of gun violence. As Members of Congress, we have a moral responsibility to take action and help save lives."
