DeLauro Calls for Full-Year Funding Of Homeland Security Department
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today called on Republicans who control the House of Representatives to bring up a clean bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the rest of the fiscal year. Connecticut alone has 1,469 members of the Coast Guard, law enforcement officials, disaster response officials, and many other DHS personnel who now face the prospect of a shutdown at midnight.
“The Majority is playing dangerous games with our national security because they do not agree with the President’s position on immigration. They have torn up the fundamental rule of American politics: that we do not play political games with the security of our nation. At a time when we face threats from ISIS and other enemies these tactics are troubling at best, and potentially deadly at worst. The Senate has acted in an overwhelmingly bipartisan way to pass a clean DHS bill. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle need to do their job and join us in passing a clean bill that funds DHS for the rest of the fiscal year.”
Every House Democrat, including DeLauro, is co-sponsor of clean legislation to fund DHS.
