DeLauro Calls on Trump Administration to Stop Attacking Science and Facts

January 25, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (January 25, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement calling on the Trump Administration to stop issuing gag orders on federal agencies and to allow the release of scientific studies without mandating their review by political staff.

"The Administration's decision to direct federal agencies to refrain from releasing public information from scientific agencies, including that which relates to climate change, is dangerous. Scientists from around the country and the globe benefit from this information and restricting its access will only stand to stifle research and our ability to respond to national matters.

"The Administration must reverse these actions before it jeopardizes the health and well-being of the American public. The facts are clear: climate change is real and it is happening. The sooner that the Administration comes to this reality, the sooner we can respond to it and develop a plan that will help us respond to natural disasters and plan for the future.

"President Trump and his climate-denying advisers are playing dangerous games that will rollback years of progress. There is no reason to deny facts when scientists and the global community, including the more than 190 countries that signed onto the Paris Agreement, agree that climate change is real and that we must act."
