DeLauro Celebrates National Nutrition Month and School Breakfast Week

March 6, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today celebrating National Nutrition Month and School Breakfast Week, annual events that reinforce the importance of developing sound eating and physical activity habits:

“There’s no better time than National Nutrition Month and School Breakfast Week to recognize how vital it is that all Americans take care of themselves and their families by eating healthy.

“For that reason, I have been – and will continue to be – a strong advocate for programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and others that ensure families who are struggling economically can access the nutrients they need. All Americans, regardless of their income, deserve the right to a healthy lifestyle.”

The National Nutrition Month theme for 2015 is “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle,” which encourages everyone to adopt eating and physical activity plans that are focused on consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health.

Resources on this are available at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ National Nutrition Month website.
