DeLauro Commends Connecticut Groups Rallying to Disarm Hate

August 12, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (August 12, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement on the Disarm Hate Rally, where thousands of Americans will come together to call on Congress to enact commonsense legislation that can help save lives.

“Across the country, millions of Americans are calling for Congress to address the gun violence epidemic and help save lives. In Connecticut, we are all too familiar with the devastating effects of gun violence and groups like the Newtown Action Alliance, Sandy Hook Promise, and Connecticut Against Gun Violence are working tirelessly to make an impact. Our state is committed to ending gun violence and I thank everyone from Connecticut who is rallying this weekend to disarm hate.

“While Speaker Ryan and Republicans refuse to act on gun violence, the American people will no longer be silent. Victims of gun violence deserve action and the American people demand it. Congress must stand up against the gun industry, grow a spine, and do something about the national gun violence epidemic that continues to shatter communities. Let us do it for our children, our grandchildren, and the more than 32,000 Americans who will die from firearms this year.”
