DeLauro to the Council of State Chambers: “Shame!”
WASHINGTON, DC (April 4, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Council of State Chambers’ double sided approach to issues – privately supporting policies that benefit working families, while publicly attempting to defeat them.
“Americans are working harder than ever and are finding it increasingly more difficult to balance the demands of work and family life. Recognizing this fact, a majority of Americans and business leaders, support policies to help working families, which include raising the minimum wage, enacting paid family leave, and giving employees paid sick days. However, the Council of State Chambers has hired Republican pollster Frank Luntz to spin the facts and try to defeat the very policies that its members overwhelmingly support.
“Shame on the Council of State Chambers for engaging in a hypocritical, double sided approach and working against the millions of American employees – including their own – who would benefit from these policies. These business leaders understand that it is good for business to treat workers with dignity and the Council of State Chambers should not be trying to convince them otherwise. Maybe it is time for the Council of State Chambers to finally join the rest of us in the 21st Century and support policies that benefit all working families, not just a select few.”
