DeLauro Endorsed by AFL-CIO for Chair of Appropriations in the 117th Congress

November 9, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) issued this statement thanking Richard L. Trumka, President of the 12.5 million-member American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO), for his support(link is external):

"Last week, President Richard Trumka delivered remarks that ended with a sentiment that will guide our work this Congress: ‘We're powerful. We're united. And we're ready for change.' With the spread of COVID-19, Richard Trumka has never backed down from a fight for our workers, many of whom became poorer in this pandemic as billionaires saw their wealth expand. I am inspired by Richard Trumka, honored to have his support, and grateful for AFL-CIO's continued partnership.

"With Election Day behind us, we must all embody Richard Trumka's fighting spirit and focus our energy on living up to the promises we made to the people. We must fight not simply for an end to this pandemic and for full recovery from the past four years but for investments that create a better future for our workers and their families."

AFL-CIO's endorsement of Congresswoman DeLauro to be the next Chair of the House Appropriations Committee follows the endorsements of AFT President Randi Weingarten, NEA President Becky Pringle, and many others.
