DeLauro Honors Vietnam Veteran, West Haven Resident Army Specialist George Glynn
NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today honored Vietnam veteran and West Haven resident Army Specialist (ret) George Glynn with the Bronze Star.
“Specialist Glynn’s heroic actions showcase the highest values of our armed forces. In the most dangerous of situations, he risked his own life to save a fellow soldier. It is because of the valor and self-sacrifice of heroes like George Glynn that our society remains one of freedom and opportunity. It was my honor and privilege to present Specialist Glynn with the Bronze Star.”
In 1969, Specialist Glynn was stationed deep in the Vietnamese jungle and asleep when an enemy soldier threw an explosive charge, and the blast peppered Specialist Glynn and a nearby Sergeant with shrapnel. Specialist Glynn was able to drag his injured comrade to the relative safety of a neighboring bunker. While the firefight continued, Specialist Glynn set out search of a medic, whom he found and brought back to the bunker to tend to the wounded Sergeant.
Specialist Glynn was previously awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle) and Purple Heart.
The Bronze Star is reserved for those who distinguish themselves by “heroic or meritorious achievement or service” in a combat zone.
Over the years DeLauro has helped hundreds of veterans like George Glynn get the medals and the recognition they deserve. Her office is ready to assist other veterans and their families get the delayed medals they are due. Connecticut’s Third Congressional District has 40,292 veterans living in it, six percent of the total population.
